Summary
The Living Shoreline Academy is a comprehensive look at living shorelines. The course is aimed towards waterfront property mangers, property owners, landscapers, and anyone looking for alternative methods of building shoreline resiliency. Students will learn: how to conduct site assessments, design considerations, acceptable substrates & materials, construction techniques, process of attaining the required permits and the plants which thrive in the saltwater marshes, tidal zones and upland areas of coastal North Carolina. Multiple guest speakers will provide insight from their respective institutions; NC Sea Grant, East Carolina University, NC Coastal Federation & more. The class will also include up to three off-campus trips to view projects under construction, Location and dates of the trips TBD. Tuition $75.00.
